Fyto-Pfas is a research project aiming to remediate heavy pfas contaminated soil at Kristianstads Räddningstjänst fire practices site using Willow plants, groundwater pumping and Foam Fractionation
PFAS at firefighting and training sites (FFTS) – a growing problem
The project tests different scenarios of phytoremediation including foam fracturing.
From lab tests, pilot and finally full scale on the same soil.
Previously, the pilot tests in IBC have started
4 different scenarios : soil, soil + willow, soil + willow + re-circulation of water and last as previous but with foam fracturing
And now the full scale is planted.
As you can see, we have laid a weed mat over the soil, which also makes it easier when we later collect the leaves, which are then full of short PFAS.
About 2000 willow plants is planted in EU spacing.
Under the wed mat is a LWIS irrigation system layed to recirculate pumped groundwater back on the soil washing out PFAS.
